Some good news – we’re looking at building nearly 40 new council properties this year.
Firstly, we’re planning to build 27 new council properties on four of our old office sites.
Our old neighbourhood offices on Hilton Road in Tividale and Gladstone Street and Monmouth Drive in Hateley Heath could be redeveloped. We also want to build on Ladbury Road on the Yew Tree Estate where we have empty office buildings.
We no longer need these sites and we want to build a selection of different sizes and types of homes to get people into suitable housing and off our waiting lists.
If the plans are approved, this will help us provide homes for dozens of families as well as moving people from homes that are no longer suitable for their needs.
We’re also looking at remodelling Sandfield House in Walsall Road, Stone Cross, as 12 new one-bedroom flats.
We might only be talking about 40 homes at the moment, but whatever we can do to provide council housing makes a real difference to people in need of affordable, secure homes.
We’re hoping work could start as early as the summer on some of the sites and we’ll continue to identify other council-owned land where we can build similar small developments.
